Who is AJ?

AJ Weary, a proud third-generation graduate of McDowell High School Class of 2010, wore the Trojan football jersey #77 and built a lasting reputation as both a dedicated athlete and an unforgettable friend. Football was a cornerstone of AJ’s life—it gave him purpose, discipline, and a brotherhood of teammates who became lifelong friends. Off the field, AJ was known for his loyalty, quick wit, deep love for dogs, and the heart he poured into everything he did.

Tragically, AJ passed away at the age of 30 due to complications from a blood clot following a routine knee surgery. His sudden and devastating loss left an immeasurable void in the lives of his family, fiancée, young son, and many friends.

In his memory, AJ’s loved ones established this fund to ensure that his love for family, football, and his enduring spirit of friendship and perseverance will continue to impact others.

Who will the fund support?

 The AJ’s Heart of Champions Fund will provide:

• Support for blood clot awareness initiatives within the community, helping to educate others about the risks, warning signs, and prevention of blood clots, with the goal of sparing other families from similar heartbreak. 
• A football scholarship awarded annually to a graduating senior from McDowell High School who not only demonstrates dedication to the sport but also embodies AJ’s values of character, teamwork, and perseverance. Eligible applicants must: 
  • Have played football for four years at McDowell and at least two years within a Millcreek football program or at Millcreek Junior High 
  • Be a resident of Millcreek Township 
  • Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA 

Through this fund, AJ’s legacy lives on—by empowering students to pursue their goals and by raising critical awareness for a cause that has deeply touched our lives.
